On Sunday, November 13th, Javier Pinola announced his retirement from professional football after a long and successful career. Before the match against Betis, in Mendoza, he emotionally said to Star+: “I told my family, my teammates, and my coach: today will be the last match of my career. This is it for me, I’m 39 years old, and I’m retiring from the club where I dreamed of playing all my life, ever since I was a kid.”

In mid-2017, the experienced defender joined the squad as back-up. As a result of his effort, personality, and commitment, Javier Pinola became one of the key figures of the last line, in the team managed by Marcelo Gallardo.

During his time wearing the River jersey, Pinola won eight titles—of which six are local and two are international—, including the historic CONMEBOL Libertadores Cup won in Madrid against Boca Juniors, on December 9th, 2018.
