Stadium enlargement: IDOM to be Project Manager for the work

The club has chosen IDOM to carry out this work. IDOM is an independent company that provides professional consulting, engineering and architecture services, and was also in charge of the projects at stadiums including Camp Nou, San Mames and Ciutat de Valencia, in Spain, and San Carlos de Apoquindo in Chile.

River Plate has decided to carry out a thorough renovation project at the Monumental Stadium, preserving the soul and the tradition of the historic football pitch, while transforming it greatly to adapt it to 21st century football needs and standards: its capacity will increase, making it the largest stadium in South America and improving the fans’ comfort as well as stadium services and access. IDOM analyzed a wide range of options until it found the one that would make such an important reformation work feasible.

After doing this, once the project was presented by President Jorge Brito, unanimously approved by the Board of Directors and the Members' Representative Assembly, the process to carry out the new reformation works was started. By lowering the field and removing the running track, new lower grandstands will be built closer to the playing field, allowing the public to be in greater contact with the players.

Another important work consists in building a single exit tunnel starting from the locker rooms, at the center with respect to the San Martin grandstand and with inside views from the hospitality area, as seen in the large European stadiums. The scope of the project includes increasing the number of middle grandstands, resulting in a 360° degree connection that will link the existing boxes in the San Martin and Belgrano grandstands as well.

By building these new boxes, the new hospitality areas, three parking levels, and a new day-use restaurant looking out to the playing field and the River neighborhood, the stadium will set a new benchmark for the quality and service level of this type of spaces throughout Latin America. Lastly, this important transformation of the historic Monumental Stadium will be complete with the addition of new seats, increasing the fans’ comfort and making it the largest and most modern stadium in South America.
