River had a rough start to the match, quickly being one down due to the goal by Silvio Romero. Nonetheless, the team recovered and evened the score thanks to a penalty taken by Enzo Fernandez, after Tomas Pochettino was fouled inside the box when receiving an excellent pass from Fernandez.

River orchestrated a few good collective plays in the attack, and Esequiel Barco struck a great volley off a pass from Andres Herrera that could have easily set the score at 2-1. Fortaleza was better off at the end of the first half, but Franco Armani rose to the occasion, saving several shots: he reacted very well to a one-on-one, a crossed header, and medium-range shots, preventing any more goals from being conceded.

In the second half, the match evened up and there were no clear scoring opportunities. River had a chance to score when Nicolas De La Cruz recovered the ball on the rival side of the field, but Fernandez missed his shot. Running up the left-hand side of the field, following a long shot by Julian Alvarez, Pochettino made his way up the middle of the field but wasn’t able to score River’s second goal. El Millonario orchestrated another dangerous play on the left-hand side of the field and De La Cruz struck a shot that was saved by Walef.

With this draw, el Millonario remains undefeated at the top of Group F, with 10 points. The team’s next match will take place on Sunday, against Platense, for the local tournament. Regarding the CONMEBOL Libertadores, River’s next match will take place on Thursday 19th, against Chile's Colo-Colo, at the Mâs Monumental Stadium, where they’ll seek to qualify for the Round of 16.
