River dominated from the start, but unlike other matches, it found it difficult to run up the field into the rival's box, making the first shot on goal in the 18th minute, but Agustin Palavecino’s shot went wide of the goal. Then, River’s midfielder set up another dangerous play, striking a shot from the left that deflected off a defender and almost enters Nicolas Campisi’s goal by the far post.

The only threat to Atletico Tucuman’s goal was long-range shot by Ramiro Ruiz Rodriguez that went high. Palavecino had another good chance: off a corner kick, No. 8 received the ball in the box but struck a left-footed shot that went wide. When the 45 minutes were over, Julian Alvarez set up Matias Suarez for a goal, but No. 7 was fouled and Facundo Tello awarded River a penalty. Enzo Fernandez took the penalty kick and set the score at 1-0.

With the second half barely started, River almost set the score at 2-0 thanks to a great shot by Palavecino that could have entered the goal by the left corner, should Campisi not have reacted well. The away team evened the score after a quick attacking play, a crossed shot by Ciru Rius and a header by Ruiz Rodriguez on a rebound off Franco Armani. River was taken aback as it didn’t see it coming but kept trying with some clear scoring chances that didn't turn into goals.

Despite the draw, Gallardo’s team continues to rank second in Group A, with 23 points, being two matchdays away from the end of this round. River's next match will take place on Wednesday, in Chile, for the CONMEBOL Libertadores against Colo-Colo. On Saturday, the team will visit Sarmiento in Junin.
