Complete party at the Monumental Stadium! With the fans’ return, River authoritatively beat Boca Juniors 2-1 (and the lead could have been wider). The goals for el Millonario, which is now temporarily in the lead, were scored by Julian Alvarez.

The starting minutes of the match were filled with determination, with both teams measuring each other on the midfield. Boca had the first scoring opportunity thanks to a long-range shot by Nicolas Orsini. However, River took the initiative and the first breaking point of the super classic match took place: Marcos Rojo made two consecutive fouls and was sent off for a double yellow card.

River immediately started to press Boca and scored the first goal: Julian Alvarez made a great individual play, including a feint, and struck a tremendous shot from outside the box, beating Agustin Rossi. Luis Advincula struck a long-range shot for the rival team, but el Mas Grande dominated the match and went looking for the second goal: Braian Romero failed to catch a long cross and was then replaced by Jorge Carrascal, who set up Agustin Palavecino for a goal (he failed to control the ball in the box), creating a good scoring opportunity.

In the last minutes of the first half, el Millonario recovered the ball after a bad clearance by Boca’s defenders, Milton Casco made a wide pass to Santiago Simon on the right, and the youth player fired an on-target cross which was directly struck by Alvarez. Julian scored his second goal and the stadium’s grandstands celebrated the 2-0 score. Before the end, River went for the third goal and was close to scoring it thanks to a shot by Carrascal that was saved by Boca’s keeper.

River kept the same mindset and didn’t let the rival team play. At the beginning of the second half, River tried to hurt Boca with combined attacking plays. De La Cruz and Carrascal set up a great play, but Alvarez failed to control the ball inside the box. On another clear opportunity, Julian made an overlapping run on the right and tapped the ball to the Colombian no. 10, who was not able to strike it, and Simon failed to score off the rebound.

Carrascal had an unbeatable opportunity to set the score at 3-0: Off a good assist by Enzo Perez, the Colombian player tried to send the ball over Rossi, but Boca’s keeper reacted well. On another opportunity, Simon struck a right-footed shot that deflected off Carlos Izquierdoz and went just wide of the right post. Furthermore, Fabrizio Angileri fired a volley that smashed against Rossi’s left post. In the last play, Boca reduced the deficit thanks to a header by Carlos Zambrano.

River rounded off a perfect evening, seeing the fans again and securing a clear victory on this super classic matchday. Furthermore, it got to the top of the tournament (awaiting Tallere’s match), and on the next matchday, it will visit Banfield.
